Nigerian Universities To Reopen 18 January After 9 Months Of ASUU Strike

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has announced the commencement of academic activities across Nigerian, after nine months of ASUU strike.

Nigerian Universities have been on strike since March 2020.

However, in a statement released by the deputy executive secretary (Administration) of the NUC, Chris Maiyaki, mandated officers on Grade Level 12 and below to stay at home for a period of five weeks as earlier directed by the federal government.

He urged university authorities to adhere to COVID-19 protocols in order to safeguard lives.

The statement read;
“I am to add that universities on resumption of academic activities, must under no circumstance violate the full cycle of the semester system, consistent with the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) approved by the NUC, as well as other extant quality assurance standards and guidelines”.
