A Nigerian man is facing severe online criticism after crashing a luxury car valued at over N100 million during a high-speed race in Lagos.
The man, identified by his online handle, #trammania, became the subject of backlash when he sought financial assistance via social media to repair his wrecked 2022 Corvette Stingray.
The incident, which took place on Sunday at the Eko Atlantic area, occurred while #trammania was racing the Corvette against a Jeep.
In the heat of the competition, he collided with a Dodge Challenger parked in the middle of the road, tearing off its bumper before crashing further down.
Though he survived the accident, his call for public financial help sparked outrage.
Many Nigerians criticized his plea, expressing disbelief that someone who participated in a reckless race with an expensive vehicle would ask for help afterward.
One tweep, #iam__temmyyy, remarked, “Imagine renting a car to do a drag race. You get mind sha. N400m loun loun…”
Another user, @Bidal4Life, commented, “Everybody dey find generational wealth. E reach this one turn, e go jam generational debt.”
While some focused on the driver’s irresponsibility, others offered advice on the importance of safety during car races.
#Chuc__kki pointed out, “The first rule of drag racing! Clear and secure the race path. The onlookers were more concerned with recording than securing the path. Now they have content, 400m debt for this economy na die ooo.”
According to Motortrend, the price of the 2022 Corvette Stingray ranges between $60,900 (N100.3 million) and $79,850 (N131.5 million), highlighting the magnitude of the loss and the public’s frustration over the man’s appeal for financial assistance.
