Access Bank Denies Claims of Missing N500 Million from Customer’s Account
Access Bank has dismissed allegations of unethical practices and missing funds from a customer’s account, following claims made by popular Nigerian social media influencer, Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan.
In a video posted on Saturday, November 23, Otse accused the bank of dubious practices involving the account of a deceased customer, alleging a sum of N500 million was unaccounted for.
The viral video sparked widespread discussions and raised concerns among the public about the bank’s integrity.
Responding to the allegations in a statement released on Sunday, November 24, Access Bank described the claims as “untrue and baseless,” asserting that the safety and security of customers’ funds remain a top priority for the institution.
“Our attention has been drawn to a video on social media wherein allegations of missing funds and unethical behaviour have been made against Access Bank Plc,” the statement read.
“First and foremost, we wish to emphasise that the safety and security of our customers’ funds are core priorities that we take seriously. Second, Access Bank Plc does not engage in or condone any unethical behaviour.”
The bank further clarified that an independent investigation involving other stakeholders in the banking industry had been conducted, with all findings supporting its position that no funds were missing.
“There is no N500m or any other fund or amount missing from the subject customer’s account or any other customer’s account with us,” the statement added.
Access Bank urged the public to disregard unverified and sensational claims, reiterating its commitment to upholding ethical standards and protecting customers’ interests while complying with privacy laws.
The controversy underscores the growing influence of social media in shaping public opinion and the need for institutions to address concerns swiftly to maintain public trust.
