Nigerian music legend Onyeka Onwenu, affectionately known as the “Elegant Stallion,” was buried today in a private vault at the Ikoyi Cemetery, Lagos.
The final rites took place after a solemn funeral service held at the Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju.
Onwenu, who tragically passed away on July 30, 2024, after collapsing during a performance at a birthday party, was 72 years old.
She leaves behind two sons. The burial ceremony was attended by a host of notable Nigerians, including Peter Obi, the Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 General Election, and Dr. Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State, among others.
Onyeka Onwenu’s contributions to the Nigerian music industry and her advocacy work have left an indelible mark, and her passing has been met with an outpouring of tributes from fans and colleagues alike.
