This decision is a direct response to the troubling arrest and detention of minors during the recent #EndBadGovernance protests across Nigeria.
The situation escalated dramatically last Friday when 76 hunger strikers, including several children, were arraigned at the Abuja Federal High Court.
Reports of their mistreatment during detention have sparked outrage nationwide, with several protesters reportedly collapsing while waiting for their court appearance.
The minors were among those arrested in multiple states, including Abuja, Kaduna, Gombe, Jos, Katsina, and Kano, facing serious charges, including treason.
Although the court granted bail set at N10 million for each defendant, the prosecutor has controversially requested that the names of those who collapsed be removed from the charges, raising further concerns about the treatment of these young detainees.
The alarming incident has drawn condemnation from both local and international observers, with various stakeholders criticizing the Nigerian government’s heavy-handed approach to the protests.
During a heartfelt phone call on Monday’s live program, Ahmed Isah expressed his deep outrage over the situation.
He announced the immediate termination of the Brekete Family program, stating, “Terminate the program; this is part of our protest. Tell every complainant to go home. The government should do the right thing.”
Isah plans to open the phone lines on his program tomorrow, encouraging Nigerians to voice their concerns until the minors are released unconditionally.
