Some group of women in Rivers state, have staged a peaceful protest to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) office, popular known as NEPA, over lack of electricity.
In the video seen online by Becksblog, the frustrated women were heard crying to the officials on duty to come to their aid by resolving the issue on ground.
According to the women who took to the street of Port Harcourt on Tuesday, February 6, revealed that despite not getting electricity all the time, they still pay their monthly bill.
They also revealed that lack of power supply has affected their relationship with their husbands, stating that their husbands no longer touch them at night due to excess heat.
They were seen holding placards with inscriptions such as ‘No Light, No Payment’, ‘The Heat is too much’.
They also said their businesses had been grounded due to poor power supply.
While speaking, the leader of the group, Maria Ike, said;
“We have decided to let the world know what we are passing through in the hands of PHED. The poor supply in our area is at zero level despite the fact that we pay monthly bills to PHED.
“We no longer have romance and conjugal relationship with our husbands because of so much heat due to power failure. Our businesses have collapsed because of power outage. This is really affecting our families”
