The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shared a personal story about how he was once deceived by a man who promised him a commandant position in a paramilitary group.
Adeboye revealed the incident on Monday through a post on his X handle, recounting how his long-standing fascination with the military led him to trust the individual.
According to Adeboye, the man posed as a recruiter for a new paramilitary agency, offering him a leadership role.
Eager to fulfill what seemed like a divine opportunity, Adeboye agreed to fund the project without first seeking divine guidance.
“Years ago, I was duped by a man who promised to make me a commandant of a paramilitary group. He had been sending messages to me through my secretary, and one day, I gave him an audience.
He explained how a Boy Scouts-like group had evolved into a new agency, and they needed someone to lead spiritually,” Adeboye wrote.
Blinded by his enthusiasm and love for the military from his youth, Adeboye admitted that he made a decision without consulting God, which he later regretted.
The man turned out to be a fraud, and Adeboye lost a significant amount of money in the process.
However, the clergyman reflected on the lessons he learned from the experience.
He noted that while his desire to lead a paramilitary group had led him astray, God had already planned for the establishment of a corps of chaplains and a police post within the Redemption City.
“What I lost in that experience was money, but for someone else, it might have been their life or a loved one,” he concluded.
