Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, also known as Mr. P and formerly part of the legendary Afrobeat duo P-Square, has shared his reaction to a viral video of a French band performing the duo’s popular hit Testimony (Taste the Money) during a state dinner at the Palais de l’Élysée in Paris.
The performance, which took place on Thursday, was part of President Bola Tinubu’s three-day state visit to France, aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations.
The French band infused the Afrobeat song with a unique French twist, captivating the audience, which included President Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, who appeared to thoroughly enjoy the cultural exchange.
Peter Okoye took to Instagram on Friday to share the viral video, accompanied by a playful caption: “Enjoy your weekend! #TasteTheMoney.”
The performance has drawn attention, not only for its celebration of Nigerian music on an international stage but also in the context of the ongoing tensions between Peter and his brother Paul Okoye, known as Rudeboy.
The brothers, once united as P-Square, have had a tumultuous relationship in recent years, which led to their split.
Adding fuel to the fire, Paul Okoye recently accused Peter of appropriating a song titled Winning, which he claimed was intended for his upcoming album.
Producer Vampire Craze, who worked with P-Square, revealed that the track was produced in 2022 during a brief reunion of the duo.
