Nigerian singer Davido has rekindled his conflict with his first baby mama, Sophia Momodu, by filing for full custody of their daughter, Imade Aurora Adeleke.
Davido’s lawyers, Dr. Olaniyi Arije, Okey Barrah, and others, submitted a petition to the Lagos State High Court on April 17, 2024, detailing various reasons for seeking custody of nine-year-old Imade.
He accused Sophia of using their daughter to extort money from him and making unreasonable demands.
In the suit, Davido stated, “I have always covered all my daughter’s school fees to ensure she receives the best education and have met all her educational needs without any issues.
“I have also been paying the rent for the apartment where the respondent lives with our daughter.”
He added, “The respondent refused to live in the secure Oniru apartment that I bought and insisted that I continue paying N5,000,000 annually for a rented place as my contribution towards our daughter’s accommodation.”
To further meet Imade’s needs, Davido said, “I bought a Range Rover SUV for the respondent and our daughter to use, including for school transportation.”
He recalled that last year, he received a call from Imade’s school reporting her two-week absence. When he questioned Momodu, “She made excuses about the Range Rover SUV being in poor condition but had not informed me about it.”
Following this, Davido provided another vehicle, a Highlander SUV, along with N5.8 million for the Range Rover’s repair, giving the respondent access to two vehicles for herself and their daughter.
To further ensure Imade’s welfare, Davido claimed, “I have also committed to paying living expenses, nanny fees, medical and health care, insurance, and periodic international travel expenses.”
Despite his efforts, Davido stated, “The respondent has continued to make extravagant and unrealistic demands to frustrate me.”
He listed other demands made by Momodu, such as, “The respondent wants me to pay the nanny she hired $800 per month, and $19,600 annually in a lump sum.”
Davido concluded that despite his efforts to provide a better life for their daughter, “The respondent has consistently shown me unwarranted cruelty, causing me significant distress.”
