Three prominent drug kingpins and 16 accomplices have been handed a combined total of 302 years in prison for their involvement in drug trafficking, including substances such as cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis, and opioids.
According to Femi Babafemi, Director of Media & Advocacy for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the sentences follow a series of arrests and prosecutions by the anti-narcotics agency.
The convictions occurred between July 1 and July 31, 2024, across various locations including Benue, Bauchi, Edo, Lagos, Ogun, Gombe, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
Among those sentenced is 50-year-old Bolanle Lookman Dauda, arrested on May 25, 2024, with 57.5 kilograms of cocaine. Dauda was convicted on July 19, 2024, and sentenced to 21 years in prison or a N30 million fine.
Another kingpin, 34-year-old Ikeh Stanley Ifeanyi, was apprehended with 1,100 ampoules of fentanyl on June 27, 2024, and sentenced on July 4, 2024, to 14 years in prison or a N2 million fine.
Christian Anyanwu, arrested with methamphetamine in November 2022, received a 16-year sentence on July 12, 2024, with a mandatory four-year imprisonment.
Additional notable sentences include Moses Yakubu’s 25-year term and Oluosun Okikiola’s 15-year sentence, both handed down in July 2024. These convictions underscore the NDLEA’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and uphold justice.
