A Nigerian man residing in the United States has taken to Facebook to share a startling revelation about the high cost of lodging in New York City.
The man, who goes by the name “Loaded Man” on the platform, recounted a personal experience of paying $80 to sleep for just eight hours in a pod-like sleeping box.
In his post, the Facebook user explained how expensive it is to find affordable lodging in New York City.
He described the sleeping box as having no extractor fan inside, making it an uncomfortable experience. “I learnt my lesson many years ago when I slept in what looked like a pod-like box with no extractor fan inside,” he wrote. “I paid $80 to sleep for 8 hours.”
He also shared that due to the high cost, he had to adjust his schedule to make the most of his time in the city. “I had to hang out in town till 11 pm so I could sleep in till 7 am,” he said.
The sleeping arrangement, according to him, included an alarm that buzzed loudly when his time was up, signaling that it was time to leave.
The procedure involved removing the bedsheet as he left, making way for the next person to occupy the small space.
The experience, which the man described as a throwback to his “early ajala days,” has resonated with many who have recently relocated abroad, highlighting the challenges of finding affordable accommodations in major cities like New York.
