Ghanaian rap sensation Sarkodie has made bold statements about his rise to fame, emphasizing that his success is a result of his hard work and not collaborations with Nigerian artists.
Speaking in a recent interview, he supported Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz, who earlier claimed that African artists achieve success through their efforts rather than external influences.
“Diamond Platnumz is right,” Sarkodie said. “We collaborated with Nigerians, but they didn’t make us stars; our effort did!”
The award-winning rapper addressed misconceptions about how artists achieve success in the music industry. “It’s quite unfortunate that people don’t know artists come together and work to be successful,” he explained.
Sarkodie acknowledged working with Nigerian artists like Runtown and Banky W to help them break into the Ghanaian market but refuted the notion that these collaborations defined his career.
He further dismissed comparisons with Nigerian rapper M.I., stating, “Imagine some people comparing me to M.I., which he himself knows he cannot do what I do rapping indigenously!”
Sarkodie urged Nigerian music fans to stop attributing the success of Ghanaian artists to their country’s influence. “Please Nigerians, stop attributing our success to yourselves… We worked hard for it!”
