Former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has made it clear that her husband, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, will not be participating in the 2027 presidential election.
This comes after speculations and calls from political stakeholders urging the former president to contest once again.
While hosting the Greater Igbo Forum in Abuja, Patience Jonathan emphasized that her husband has reached the pinnacle of political office in Nigeria, having served as the country’s president from 2010 to 2015.
According to her, there is no further political ambition for the former president, and they have no plans of re-entering the political race.
“My husband has reached the pinnacle of political office. What is he looking for again? We are not going in again,” she remarked, shutting down the possibility of his candidacy.
She also used the opportunity to call on the Igbo community to put aside political differences and work towards unity and national development.
She urged Nigerians to prioritize the collective good over personal ambitions, emphasizing the need for love, unity, and peace for the sake of the nation’s future and the younger generation.
“We should love this country more than ourselves. Because if you don’t love this country, what is the future of our children?” she asked.
Her statement has garnered attention, as she emphasized the importance of national unity and urged the Igbo community to be united and supportive of one another for the greater good of the country.
