The World Trade Organization (WTO) has announced the reappointment of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as its director-general for a second term, set to begin on September 1, 2025.
Okonjo-Iweala, who took office as the seventh director-general of the WTO on March 1, 2021, made history as the first woman and first African to hold the position.
Prior to leading the global trade organization, she served as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, where her work earned her international recognition.
Her reappointment highlights the WTO’s continued confidence in Okonjo-Iweala’s leadership and the transformative impact of her policies during her first term, particularly in advancing global trade reform.
