Nigerian scholar Matthew Mgbukwu has officially earned a PhD in Nanophotonics from the University of Strasbourg, France, marking a significant milestone in his academic journey.
Mgbukwu, originally from Abia State but raised in Jos, Plateau State, shared the exciting news on his Facebook page on Tuesday, December 17, writing:
“Allow me to reintroduce myself: Ladies and gentlemen, Dr. Mgbukwu. It feels surreal to say this, but I’m deeply thankful for the journey and all the support along the way.”
Mgbukwu’s rise to academic excellence began in 2018 when he graduated with First-Class Honors in Physics from the University of Jos (Unijos).
His brilliance earned him the top spot in the prestigious Idex Université de Paris-Saclay scholarship, enabling him to pursue a Master’s degree in Molecular Nanobiophotonics in France, where he explored the interaction between light and matter at the nanoscale.
His pursuit of knowledge continued with a PhD in Nanophotonics, where his groundbreaking research was funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR).
His work has solidified his reputation as a rising star in the global scientific community.
Beyond academics, Mgbukwu’s down-to-earth nature and love for Arsenal Football Club remain unwavering.
In a lighthearted celebration, his colleagues presented him with an Arsenal jersey, a nod to his passion for the sport.
