Nigerian activist Aisha Yesufu publicly responded to singer Seun Kuti after he criticized her efforts in advocating for African women’s freedom.
The exchange began when Seun posted a video on social media challenging Aisha’s activism, suggesting that African women already enjoy significant freedom compared to women in other parts of the world.
In a sharp response on her X (formerly Twitter) page, Aisha called out Seun’s motives, accusing him of seeking attention. She wrote, “Seun Kuti @RealSeunKuti is trying to get attention using my name, but his karaoke business isn’t successful like those in the music industry.”
Aisha didn’t stop there. She also took a jab at Seun’s lineage, implying his lack of success is due to his father’s legacy overshadowing him: “Person wey people dey book im show because dem wan see a caricature of his father even if they can’t have the real thing.”
Through her post, Aisha emphasized her focus on holding the government accountable, indirectly dismissing Seun’s criticisms as irrelevant distractions.
The online spat has drawn the attention of many Nigerians, sparking conversations about activism, celebrity legacies, and the fight for women’s rights in Africa.
