The federal government has revealed, through Sadiya Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, to distribute N729 billion, which is N5,000 each to 24.3 million poor Nigerians.
The minister however, disclosed this at the inauguration of the Federal Government’s emergency intervention database for the urban poor, said the beneficiaries would get paid for a period of six months.
The statement was issued in Abuja by Nneka Anibeze, the minister’s aide, which said the intervention would serve as a cushion for those further impoverished by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“According to records, about 24.3 million poor and vulnerable individuals were identified at the end of 2020 and registered into the National Social Register. Each beneficiary will receive N5,000 for a period of six months.”the statement in part reads
